Is your Child looking for fun, lots of new activities and the opportunities to make new friends and go on adventures? Then AK Scouts and Cubs could be for them! Both girls and boys are welcome.

Are you the sort of person who wants to be sure that we can provide the safe place where this can happen. Then join our Leaders Team to start this earlier in life by helping us to start a Beaver Colony for 6 to 8 year old children.

Cubs News

Everyone at Cubs had a great time working towards the Local Knowledge Badge which involved a walk around the village to look and find interesting parts of the Village. This was one of several badges we're working towards.

We had an exciting trip to Swindon's bowling venue where we bowled for the District Bowling Cup. There was some really healthy competition. We managed to achieve a very creditable 2nd place. Well done the Cubs. We had the investiture ceremony for two cubs. Congratulations and welcome both.

Scouts News

The Scouts finished the term with a cooking session - our chosen dish was 'Corned Beef Hash'. Our three patrols (Foxes, Badgers and Ravens) competed to create the best-tasting interpretation. At the end, even the cultured palates of the Leaders couldn't distinguish which was better.

Many of the activity badges that are available for Scouts are best achieved together, but there are also individual badges. It's here that our Scouts can bring their own interests, hobbies, sports, collections or music skills to show us. We'll start the term with an evening dedicated to this. In the past we have had martial arts demos, talks about Rugby League, flute recitals, cooking samples, aircraft recognition tests etc. As we move into the new term, we'll focus on outdoor activities and take advantage of better weather.

Group News

We've had our first working party of Scouts, Cubs and parents starting the clearance of the site of our new community garden in the village. We are evolving a site plan. Watch this space for further updates and pictures.

We continue to have vacancies for our active Cub Pack, for all children between the ages 8-10.5 years of age. We meet on Thursdays between 6 and 7.30pm. The Scout Troop meets on Friday evening between 6.45 and 8.15pm in the School Hall, and is open to all children 10-14 years old. If you want to come and give Cubs or Scouts a go, either contact me or just turn up. Everyone is welcome, we’d love to see you.

It's still our intention to set up a Beavers Colony for Boys and Girls aged 6-8 years. We have a small waiting list, but we must have leaders for this group. If you can help or would like your child added to the waiting list, please do contact me.

There are still vacancies for Executive members to represent all sections. You don't have to have any prior connection with the group. We're urgently looking for a Chairperson and Treasurer. If you could spare a couple of hours every month, we would love to hear from you. Again, please contact me. You don’t have to be a parent but someone who has the well-being of young people at heart; age is no barrier and any training will be given.
